Casey Boyer
A native of Central Texas, Casey Boyer is a violist and journalist currently based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. A dedicated collaborative musician, she has a passion for working with composers, recording artists, and performers within a variety of genres ranging from experimental contemporary music to roots improvisation. She has written arts and culture articles for local publications in Texas, and in addition to her role at Meadowmount, she is currently the blog editor and program assistant for the University of Michigan’s entrepreneurship, leadership, and career center.
Casey completed undergraduate degrees in viola performance and journalism at the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied viola with Roger Myers and chamber music with John Largess. She is currently pursuing graduate degrees in viola and chamber music performance at the University of Michigan under the tutelage of Caroline Coade.
Casey is a member of the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Contemporary Directions Ensemble and Opera Orchestra. She has been a finalist in the Coltman and Saint Paul String Quartet Competitions and has performed for the Miró, Rolston, Balourdet, Telegraph, Rosamunde, and Kronos Quartets. Above all, she has a passion for new music and loves working with both budding and well-established living composers. Recent contemporary music performances have included collaborations with Evan Chambers, Hansol Choi, Clarice Assad, Graham Reynolds, Ania Vu, and Marcos Balter.
Alongside her work as a classically trained performer, Casey plays viola and electronics in the Austin-based experimental pop band Hover. Her other long-term recording and performance projects include Texas folk bands Middle Sattre and Nova, as well as the Ann Arbor-based jazz quartet My Teeth. Aside from music, she enjoys various arts and crafts, camping, hiking, and stargazing.
