Steven Rochen
With the aim to teach musicians to perform with confidence and excellence, Steven Rochen has worked for many years as a violin and viola teacher, conductor, composer and chamber music coach. During his student days he was the beneficiary of excellent school music programs, outstanding teachers and mentors and youth orchestras. He strives to nurture and encourage young musicians at all levels of accomplishment. He has served on the faculties of Trinity School, Baruch College – CUNY, and currently works at Third Street Music School, InterSchool Orchestras of New York, Stevens Institute and maintains a private studio in New York in addition to work as a Teaching Artist and Teacher Mentor for a New York City public school. Many summers at Meadowmount have been spent guiding and coaching chamber music groups: intensive work in an idyllic setting.
Mr. Rochen has studied violin with Fredell Lack and Sally Thomas, conducting with Igor Buketoff and chamber music with Felix Galimir, Hans Jørgen Jensen, and Paul Doktor, among others and performed in master classes with Josef Gingold and Julius Levine.
Mr. Rochen was awarded the Paul-Philippe Bolduc Fellowship with trips to Berlin, Vienna and Prague to meet with violin makers (Jan Špidlen, Miroslav Komár, Tomáš Pilař, Pavel Hušek, and Petr Zdražil) and for research on acoustic properties of the violin at the Staatliches Institut for Musikforschung, in Berlin.
