
Tom Landschoot
Praised for his expressive, virtuosic, and poetic music making, Tom Landschoot enjoys an international career as a concert artist, recording artist, and leading pedagogue. He has toured throughout North America, Europe, South America, and Asia, appearing on national radio and television broadcasts worldwide.
He has appeared as soloist with the National Orchestra of Belgium, Frankfurt Chamber Orchestra, Tempe Symphony, Prima la Musica, Symphony of the Southwest, Shieh Chien Symphony Orchestra, Scottsdale Philharmonic, Flemish Symphony Orchestra, Kaohsiung City Symphony, Loja Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador, and the Orchestra of the United States Army Band. Festival appearances have included Barge Music, Park City, Santa Barbara, Mammoth Lakes, Eureka Springs, Taconic, Utah, Red Rock, Manchester, Fresno, Madeline Island, Waterloo, Killington, and the Texas Music Festival. His recordings are available on Summit, Organic, Kokopelli, ArchiMusic, and Centaur Records.
Landschoot was a seven-year member of the Rossetti Quartet. He has also collaborated with the Takács, Dover, and Arianna Quartets, as well as members of the Cleveland, Vermeer, Tokyo, and Orion Quartets. Past collaborators include Lynn Harrell, Peter Wiley, Gilbert Kalish, Cho-Liang Lin, Martin Beaver, and Martin Katz. A passionate advocate for contemporary music, Landschoot has commissioned and premiered more than twenty new works for cello, including a concerto by Dirk Brossé. Recent performances include appearances with the Symphony Orchestra of Flanders in a new concerto by Belgian composer Frank Nuyts.
Deeply committed to humanitarian and interdisciplinary projects, Landschoot has participated in initiatives raising funds and awareness for the construction of an orphanage and hospital in Tamil Nadu, India. As part of this effort, he was featured in a documentary chronicling a cellist’s journey across India that integrated photography, culinary arts, journalism, and original compositions.
An internationally respected teacher, Landschoot has served on the faculties of the Music Academy of the West, Meadowmount School of Music, Castleman Quartet Program, Killington Music Festival, Madeline Island Chamber Music, Texas Music Festival, and numerous other summer programs. He has presented master classes throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America, and his students have gone on to win major competitions, hold principal positions in leading orchestras, and teach at universities worldwide.
Landschoot is currently Professor of Cello at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Emeritus Professor of Cello at Arizona State University, where he previously received the Herberger College of Fine Arts Distinguished Teaching Award. During the summer he is a faculty member at the Meadowmount School of Music and has served on the faculty of Shieh Chien University in Taipei. In addition, he is the founder and Artistic Director of the Sonoran Chamber Music Festival and serves as President of the Arizona Cello Society.
