Taketo Kataoka

Japanese pianist Taketo Kataoka maintains a multifaceted career as soloist, chamber musician and vocal coach. He frequently appears at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, 92nd Street Y, Alice Tully Hall, Suntory Hall and Toppan Hall. He has given solo recitals and chamber concerts throughout the world such as the United States, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Mexico, South Korea, and Japan.

Taketo received numerous awards, including first prizes in the Suganami Piano Competition and the Machida National Piano Competition, as well as second place in the Verão Clássico International Music Academy Classical Summer Awards among other notable achievements. He was also a prizewinner in the JPTA Piano Auditions.

As an enthusiastic chamber musician, he works closely with faculty members in major conservatories such as the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Mannes school of Music, Northwestern University, and DePaul University. As a collaborative pianist, he frequently appears in the major international competitions such as Young Concert Artist, Kobe International Flute Competition and Munetsugu Angel Violin Competition. He is a keyboardist of Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra.

Born in Tokyo, Japan, Taketo currently resides in New York City and serves as a collaborative pianist at the Juilliard School. He also works as a collaborative piano faculty at the Meadowmount School of Music. He received a Master of Music at the Juilliard School, and a Bachelor of Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts. He also attended Rice University. Beginning this fall, he will pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts at Stony Brook University as a Teaching Assistant with a full-tuition scholarship.
