Casey Boyer
A native of Central Texas, Casey Boyer is a violist, marketing specialist, and journalist currently based in Austin, Texas. A dedicated collaborative musician, she has a passion for working with composers, recording artists, and performers within a variety of genres ranging from experimental contemporary music to roots improvisation. She has written arts and culture articles for local publications in Texas and in addition to her role at Meadowmount, she is currently the Social Media & Communications Coordinator for Kronos Performing Arts Association and Tertulia Chamber Music.
Casey completed undergraduate degrees in viola performance and journalism at the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied viola with Roger Myers and chamber music with John Largess, and was principal violist of the UT Symphony Orchestra and Opera Orchestra. She recently completed graduate degrees in viola and chamber music performance at the University of Michigan while studying with Caroline Coade, where she was a member of the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, Contemporary Directions Ensemble, Opera Orchestra, and Creative Arts Orchestra.
Casey has been a finalist in the Coltman and Saint Paul String Quartet Competitions and has performed for the Miró, Rolston, Balourdet, Telegraph, Rosamunde, and Kronos Quartets. Above all, she has a passion for new music and loves working with both budding and well-established living composers. Recent contemporary music performances have included collaborations with Wynton Marsalis, Evan Chambers, Cole Reyes, Clarice Assad, Graham Reynolds, Ania Vu, and Marcos Balter.
Alongside her work as a classically trained performer, Casey plays viola and electronics in the Austin-based experimental pop band Hover. Her other long-term recording and performance projects include Texas folk bands Middle Sattre and Nova, as well as the Ann Arbor-based jazz quartet My Teeth. Aside from music, she enjoys various arts and crafts, camping, and hiking.
