Patricia Sunwoo
Violinist Patricia Sunwoo maintains an unusually varied schedule in Rochester, NY, splitting her time playing with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, managing her health spa Bodymind Float Center and chairing Climate Solutions Accelerator’s Governance Committee.
Prior to settling in Rochester, Pattie enjoyed a decade of touring and recording with various chamber groups, including Naumburg Award winner Whitman String Quartet and the Bard Festival Quartet. Highlights include performing at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Spoleto Festival, and recording Artur Schnabel’s String Quartet No. 1 under the direction of Paul Zukofsky. She taught on the faculty of Binghamton University, served as a visiting teaching artist for the Midori Foundation and was cited in Henry Roth’s volume Violin Virtuosos: From Paganini to the 21st Century.
Pattie is a proud alumnus of the Meadowmount School (’92, ’93) and a graduate of the Juilliard School (BM’95, MM’96, DMA’01) where she studied with Sally Thomas, mentored with the Juilliard String Quartet and presented new scores with the New Juilliard Ensemble and Continuum. Inspired by social scientist Robert Putman’s works (ie, Bowling Alone) and her experiences serving on the Board of the Accelerator, Pattie’s recent interests include exploring the artist’s critical role in building social capital, thereby advancing the well-being of our communities.
